Welcome to The Mystery Bookshop

Who doesn't like a good mystery? Who doesn't like to immerse themselves into following an unexpected or unexplained situation from its origin to its conclusion?
It was in the 1800s that the mystery first became popular, beginning with Edgar Allen Poe's
The Murders in the Rue Morgue, which is considered by most as the first modern "detective story." After approximately twenty years the first mystery novel -- Wilkie Collins's The Woman in White (1859) -- was published, followed in 1868 by Collins's The Moonstone.

Mystery, Suspense, and Thrillers are possibly the best-selling fiction genres on today’s market. There are many sub-genres of the Mystery/Suspense/Thriller and the popularity of the different sub-genres are in a constant state of change, and many books will fall into more than one sub-genre.
Here are the sub-genres you will find in The Mystery Bookshop:

Cozy Mysteries:  Cozy mysteries are exactly what they say they are – books that you can “cozy” up to. While they provide the actions of a mystery, they do not include the bloody, gory details found in other sub-genres. There are many (many) Cozy Mystery series available in today’s market – from M.C. Beaton through the Guidepost Christian mysteries.

Historical Mysteries: Books in this sub-genre are almost always part of another sub-genre. In these books you have the detective, police, or amateur sleuth operating in an earlier historical period. One of the most popular series in this sub-genre is the Maisie Dobbs series by Jacqueline Winspear.
Spy Thrillers: James Bond, anyone?  While everyone is probably familiar with Ian Fleming, there are many others – Jack Higgins, Len Deighton, Robert Ludlum, and others.
Police Procedurals: While it is always interesting to watch an amateur detective solve a crime, nothing beats (at leas in my opinion) a great police department working as a team to solve a case. My favorite is Archer Mayor, a writer from Newfane, Vermont. There are many others like James Patterson, Colin Dexter, and Lincoln Child.
Private Detectives: Ah….. the private eye! Spenser, Aristotle “Soc” Socarides, Amie Le Duc…. Just to name a few. Oh, and don’t forget the lawyer/private eye – Perry Mason!
Other sub-genres include Romantic Suspense, Psychological Thrillers, Legal Thrillers, Hardboiled Detectives, and even Supernatural Thrillers!
All of these, plus more will be part of the inventory of The Mystery Bookshop! More titles/authors are added on a daily basis. Check back often to see what’s new!
