How to begin.......
I hope that writing a journal (or blog) gets easier as time goes on! I have started and stopped so many times it is pathetic. But, I will give it a try. What I plan to do is highlight books that I inventory in both my bricks and mortar store and my web site, hoping to create some discussion about the books and their authors. So, here we go! If you watch TV shows like Bones or CSI, you have Patricia Cornwell to thank. Her protagonist, Dr. Kay Scarpetta, a medical examiner, is featured in twenty-seven books, beginning with Postmortem in 1989 up to Unnatural Death, published this year. Cornwell's Portrait of a Killer (one of her non-fiction books) is the product of years of research on Jack the Ripper. I always recommend reading the first book of any series so that you can learn who the characters are and then be able to watch their development as you work your way through the series (assuming, of course, that you like the first entry). With that in mind, we will begin with #1 -- Postmortem. Under cover of night in Richmond, Virginia, a monster strikes, leaving a gruesome trail of stranglings that have paralyzed the city. Kay Scarpetta suspects the worst: a deliberate campaign by a brilliant serial killer whose signature offers precious few clues. With an unerring eye, she calls on the latest advances in forensic research to unmask the madman. But this investigation will test Kay like no other because it's being sabotaged from within -- and someone wants her dead. |
